Hello, Irene....

It's been just about two weeks since Misaki joined the family and we've been up to lots of fun adventures! I'm talking Just Dance 2, Sims 3, knitting(lots and lots of knitting), cooking, swimming, bike riding, and, oh, did I mention hurricane preparation? That's right, the hurricane Irene is headed right up the East Coast and you can bet we're planning on spending our Saturday in full-on preparation mode. There's a pot of tomato sauce on the stove, the Weather Channel running on the TV, and we are beginning to move our porch furniture into a shed before Irene hits tomorrow morning!

On another note, Mom taught Misaki how to knit just last week and she is already part way through her second scarf!

Here we are, knitting away! This has become a pretty usual scene- we are both enjoying knitting while we watch TV.

Misaki started the above scarf just yesterday! She is a knitting fiend :)

Here is her first scarf that she already finished!

We have been up to a lot of cooking and baking lately. Misaki made Okinomiyaki for dinner the other day!

It was so delicious!

Mom and Misaki also made cheesecake from scratch the other day- yum!

We also took a trip to a local ice cream shop :) Misaki was surprised at how big the small ice cream size was!

Check this out- Misaki got her first taste of Just Dance 2 with our little cousins!

We can't forget about Mario Kart!

To say the least, it has been a great two weeks :) School is fast approaching(as well as a hurricane!) and we'll be soaking up as much summer fun and relaxation as we can before it's over for the year. So, until next time, matta ne! See you later!

Welcome to America!

The AFS Exchange Program allows students to spend time abroad living in and experiencing a brand new culture.  On Sunday, August 14th 2011, we welcomed a new member to our American family. This family member is an awesome 17 year old girl all the way from Japan! For the next year, she will be living with us, attending an American high school, and experiencing our culture :)

In the short few days that we have spent together so far, we have had a lot of fun together as a family! We are all looking forward to the many adventures that await us in the upcoming school year. Misaki, our exchange student, and I, her host sister, will try our best to update this blog as often as possible with all of our experiences. We hope you enjoy our blog and we look forward to bringing you lots of updates on this great experience!
